| type as art november 20, 2008, 5:17PM i found this poster in the hallway of old main back in october, and grabbed it because i knew this would be "type as art". this image is found on the poster for "love your body day" hosted by the women's center. although not the best typographic art i've ever seen, i do get the impression of a woman's torso with a measuring tape around her waist. i like how the right side of the text is brighter than the left to show the curvilinear structure of her body. | | |
| bad kerning october 16, 2008, 8:00PM this sign can be found on route 222. this is just horrifying. not only is the kerning bad between the letters, but the text is also distorted!! the a in "hayle's" is way too far away from the h. "hayle's" seems too stretched out, and "automobiles" is too narrow! overall, this sign makes me cringe everytime i see it. | | |
| bad typography october 9, 2008 9:06PM when i saw that this week's journal was to be about "bad" typography, i immediately knew what i was going to use as my image. i remember when i got this t-shirt in 8th grade and thinking how ugly it was! i was the only one to notice the horrible font and odd layout of the type on my cheerleading team. i never wear this shirt simply because it would be embarrassing to wear!

| hand- rendered typography september 24, 2008 6:10PM i was sitting in my roommate's bedroom when i saw this bookmark hanging from her desk lamp. her high school volleyball coach made it for her a couple years ago. although a bit cliche, i like what the bookmark says, however the hand rendered typography is too much like normal handwriting. it should have more force to it to show the sport's athleticism and toughness. overall, the colors work well together and the general scheme of things is fine (especially for someone who isn't a designer).

| historically influenced typography september 18, 2008 5:50PM pdnedu magazine, vol. 7 issue 2, page 25 i found this logo that i scanned in from a pdnedu magazine on a table in the sharadin art building as i was leaving typography class today. this logo stood out to me as being historically influenced. it is representative of the constuctivism movement because of the bold sans serif typeface and the simple geometric shape. also, the shape is based upon a primary color, blue.
